This was my first ICANN Annual General Meeting (AGM) and the numbers, quality, and venue were really top notch. My favorite numbers:
2,639 checked-in participants, with 1,440 listing their region as Europe.
41% of attendees participated for the first time.
338 sessions were held for a total of 596.5 hours.
…
13,665 gigabytes of data as network traffic.
That’s a ton of data! More importantly, this event single handedly encouraged me to join the At-Large Committee. Unless we are directly in the domain name space we forget what makes the internet work – spoiler, it’s ICANN. I definitely recommend getting reacquainted with this core institution of our world wide web.
