Caught: Cogent Blocked from ARIN Whois DB

ARIN revokes Cogent’s access to their whois system for 6 months due to ongoing complaints of Cogent illegally using the ARIN WHOIS DB as a marketing datasource. If you get spammed by Cogent off your WHOIS listed contacts still, ARIN wants to hear from you.

The ultimate link is a PDF but short and fascinating view of the internet infrastructure world and the sales practices that have caused Cogent to be blocked. I also have to imagine that Cogent isn’t the only ISP who has done this but they are the ones who got caught.
