Yesterday was a busy day for WordPress maintainers, first we have a huge exploit, then we get an update that fixes itself. WordPress 5.5.1 patches an issue of it’s own creation, getting technical global Javascript objects were removed (without the normal deprecation that should occur, woops!). Search Engine Journal, WordPress 5.5.1 Fixes Millions of Broken Sites: “There initially was casual speculation that the impact was relatively small and limited to thousands of websites. But that wasn’t the case. WordPress 5.5 negatively impacted millions of websites.” And that’s why I and others have been very lukewarm in advocating for updating to 5.5.
